Cricket Career, Achievements & Legacy

A Journey Through Western Province and South African Cricket

My cricket journey began at the age of 16 when I started playing for Vineyards Cricket Club. What began as a passion for the game soon developed into a distinguished cricket career, representing various teams at provincial and national level.

At the age of 18, I was selected for the Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA). This was followed by selection for the WPCA Under-21 team and, the following year, the Western Province Cricket Board (WPCB) team.

At 21, I earned selection to the Western Province A team, followed by the WP Board B team at the age of 23.

I subsequently moved to Johannesburg, where I was immediately selected for the Transvaal Board side. I represented Transvaal for four years, serving as captain during my final two seasons.

In 1991, I returned to Cape Town and joined United Cricket Club. I was selected for the Western Province team, representing the province for ten seasons, with my final three seasons spent as captain.

Outstanding Cricket Achievements

My career was marked by several significant individual and team achievements, particularly in the Howa Bowl competition.

* One of only three players to achieve the remarkable double of 2,000 runs and 200 wickets in the Howa Bowl.
* The only Western Province player among those three achievers.
* Three-time selection for the South African Cricket Board team.
* Selected as captain of the South African Cricket Board team in 1988/1989.
* Selected for the SACOS XI.
* Named SACOS Cricket Player of the Year for 1988/1989.
* Second-highest wicket-taker in Howa Bowl history, with 254 wickets, behind Vincent Barnes, who recorded 304 wickets.

A Legacy of Leadership and Dedication

From my early days at Vineyards Cricket Club to representing Western Province and Transvaal, and eventually captaining United Cricket Club, my cricket journey has been built on dedication, perseverance and a deep love for the game.

Representing my province and country, earning individual recognition and leading teams as captain remain some of the proudest moments of my cricketing career.

Cricket has given me opportunities, friendships and experiences that will remain with me for a lifetime. My journey is not measured only by runs scored or wickets taken, but also by the privilege of representing the teams, clubs and communities that shaped my cricketing life.
